A Flock of Parrots

It looks like Anthony Fauci’s positive “15 minutes of fame” has flip-flopped and now there are articles decrying him from corners that previously championed him. It was pretty well split between liberals (liked him) and conservatives  (did not like him) before. I clearly recall my husband reading posts to me from a few years ago that his Facebook “friends” (who were liberal - he is not)  were posting that were claiming the infallible wisdom of the man. These posts were generating quite a bit of debate and opinions, some of the opinions were very nasty. I considered it all a colossal waste of time, jumping on that bandwagon, and it has always surprised me that people who parrot other’s opinions or positions so readily on social media are in fact…parrots. 

When parrots live in the wild they use their vocal abilities to communicate, establish territory, and bond socially. When parrots live with humans they tend to see the humans as members of their flock. The parrots are using this ability to achieve something they want.

Today reading about Mr. Fauci being found in contempt of Congress set my thoughts along the path of wondering how Mr. Fauci views his opinions, thoughts (his dairy exposed - poor guy)  and actions from back then now. To me it’s not about if he was right or wrong as we will never know on this earth the entire truth of such a thing, but it's about the tendency of people to parrot the loudest voice in the room.

A person caught up in the rhetoric of the day coming out of Washington, or anywhere for that matter, is assured to be wasting a great deal of their energy.  What I would like to point out is the dynamic of parroting an opinion with such energy and force as to create followers or acceptance, or to create enemies. It’s been such a divisive time in our country. I am not going to solve that problem and so I move on to an ending for this with an opinion of my own. 

I am not Jesus (as readers exclaim in their heads, “No kidding!”) but He is my role model. You remember the acronym that was so overly popular some years ago, “WWJD”?

Well, what would He do?

He would challenge accepted mind-sets. He would expose shallowness, greed, vanity, and deceit. He would never be caught up in the words of another. He most certainly would not.

"Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing. But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people and needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man."
